In the magazine this week, the Underground Gourmet praises Mimi’s Hummus, where “Israeli chef-owner Mimi Kitani … mines her Iraqi and Moroccan heritage for unusual specials and puts her own expertly spiced spin on the cuisine’s classics.” Rob Patronite and Robin Raisfeld also pick their top five ethical restaurants to pair with a “soup-to-nuts guide to dining with a clean conscience” by Beth Shapouri and Christine Whitney. If fast food isn’t fast enough, GoMobo founder Noah Glass is trying to find a way for you to cut the line. There are openings for every taste this week, from Joseph Leonard — little owl alum Gabriel Stulman’s “no-reservations ‘bar with serious food’ named in honor of his grandfathers” — to Bark Hot Dogs, where wieners are basted with “housemade smoked lard butter.” Also previewed: Cafe Pedlar at Frankies 17 and the second outpost of Güllüoglu, “the venerable Turkish pastry chain.” Have a second dessert at Bar Breton’s ice-cream cart; chef Cyril Renaud “is experimenting with outré flavors like tarragon and carrot cake.”
