Owner Squabbles May Sink Famous Original Ray’s

Usually, when Famous Original Ray’s is in court, it’s to sue a knockoff Ray’s. But the Post reports that Cheryl Sorrentino, an owner in the Little Italy original, is suing founder Ralph Cuomo’s girlfriend and cousin, who now run the slice joint, for $250,000 she says she’s owed. Moreover, an upstairs neighbor says Sorrentino may sell the place. Still more interesting is the backstory of Ray’s, if you don’t know it already: The owner was a convicted bank robber and member of the Lucchese mob family who, in 1998, was sentenced to four years for running a multimillion-dollar heroin trafficking business out of the pizzeria. Given that Ray’s has never exactly been known for the quality of its product, maybe Infamous Original Ray’s is more appropriate?
