Following the closing of Rainbow Café, here’s more devastating news from the outskirts of Chinatown. Okay, maybe not devastating, but Tropical 128, the pool hall with a yakitori counter and a jungle theme worthy of Rainforest Café (right down to the fish tanks built into the bathroom walls) is temporarily without booze. A bartender told us that they’re in the process of renewing their wine and beer license and expect to have their giant Tabletappers back in effect next week, but in the meantime, the shelves are disconcertingly empty of the usual sake grenades and Bartles & Jaymes wine coolers. (Yes, the place served Bartles & Jaymes.) This is truly cause for concern, given the fate of so many places with “Tropical” in the name …
