75-Year-Old Eddie’s Pizza Trucks Its Bar Pies Into Manhattan

We’ve long wished that New Haven’s Frank Pepe would launch a pizza truck here, but instead of New Haven, we’ll have to settle for New Hyde Park. And happily so. Eddie’s, which may not be quite as old as Pepe’s but is just as much of a hometown institution, will launch a Manhattan food truck on June 10. Director of operations Debbie Jones tells us the pizzeria’s owners have outfitted an old DHL truck with four small Baker’s Pride ovens, to insure that the pies (made to order in about five minutes; no slices) will match the ones that come out of their 75-year-old restaurant’s ovens.

Customers will be able to order a sixteen-inch pie for $12.50 or a ten-inch “bar pie” for $6.50 (the latter is said to only have 270 calories — it’s topped with skim-milk cheese and the crust, which comes in whole wheat for an extra dollar, isn’t much thicker than a cracker). You can add whatever toppings you’d like. After it gets a paint job next week, Eddie’s Pizza Truck will make the rounds in midtown and Wall Street. Stay posted via Facebook or Twitter and check out the menu below.
