First Look at Vintage West, Opening Tonight in the Old Luke & Leroy Space

The West Village space that housed Movida just got a new tenant, and there’s a change across the street as well. Elvis Arevelo, who operated Mixx Lounge before it closed, has taken over Le Royale and will reopen it as Vintage West tonight. If you partied here back in its Luke & Leroy heyday (remember the Misshapes?), you know it has two floors and (most important) a cabaret license, so don’t be fooled by the twenties- and thirties-inspired décor — there will be specialty cocktails, but Vintage West will be less of a speakeasy and more of a full-on nightclub open Thursday through Sunday, 10 p.m. till 4 a.m.

To match the décor, Arevelo is dressing his staff in corsets, and he tells us a house D.J. (to be determined) will spin everything from classic rock to mash-up hip-hop. The space doesn’t have a kitchen, but it does have sidewalk seating, so it may eventually open earlier for a catered happy hour. In the meantime, have another look inside.
