The Chain Gang

Jake’s Wayback Beats Shake Shack and Smashburger to Downtown Brooklyn

Reps send word that the first New York City location of the mid-Atlantic chain Jake’s Wayback Burgers (expected earlier this year) will finally open at 125 Livingston Street this Friday at 10:30 a.m., beating out the nearby Shake Shack and Smashburger. A couple of Long Island locations (at 1964 Jericho Turnpike in East Northport and 2306 Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow) will follow next month. The burger joint opened as Jake’s Hamburgers in Delaware in 1991 and changed its name to Jake’s Wayback Burgers when (in the words of its “about us” statement) “celebrity chefs got in on the act too, selling overpriced burgers for $20 at their upper-crust burger boutiques.” Those stinkin’ celebrity chefs.
