He’s most closely associated with Vegas and Top Chef Masters, but Alessandro (Alex) Stratta will soon be known as the executive chef and co-owner of the rustic-Italian Bigoli on West 13th Street, too. The restaurant will open next week in the former Gonzo space, says Diner’s Journal. Stratta, a Ducasse and Boulud alum, had his moment at 24, when “he attracted attention as the chef at Mary Elaine’s in the Phoenician in Scottsdale, Ariz., and then opened Renoir in the Mirage in Las Vegas, a showcase for his French training.” He also received two Michelin stars at the Wynn Las Vegas. A Grub Street source says Gonzo isn’t exactly gone-zo: “It looks like they haven’t changed the layout or anything too dramatic.” [Diner’s Journal/NYT]
