Michael White Is Opening an East Village Pizzeria, Nicoletta

White pizza.
White pizza.

We don’t want to say we told you so, but Diner’s Journal gets confirmation that Michael White will indeed add a pizzeria to his empire, Nicoletta, on Second Avenue at 10th Street (ahem, called it) in the East Village. Despite a legion of mouthwatering pizza-porn tweets over the last several months, reps had vehemently chalked the rumors up to hearsay. We hear the Marea and Morini toque likes his pies topped with meatballs, though just the other day a rep told us “he’s now really enjoying sausage and broccoli.” Nicoletta will bake its pies in gas-fired brick oven, and top them with mozzarella made to White’s specifications in Wisconsin. There’ll be 60 seats inside and 10 on the sidewalk, a takeout window, and beer and wine. Look for a spring opening. [Diner’s Journal/NYT]
