Gallagher’s Steakhouse Is Actually Changing Hands, May Not Close

Oh, hey. About that WARN notice posted Tuesday indicating that all 92 employees of Gallagher’s in midtown would lose their jobs when the restaurant closes in January? Turns out that current owner John Cirillo is really just in negotiations to sell the 85-year-old restaurant to Central Park Boathouse operator Dean Poll, and the state Labor Department filing is just “a formality,” Diner’s Journal reports, “in case negotiations to sell the restaurant fall through.” Poll, who relinquished his Tavern on the Green operator’s license in 2010, says he has big plans to revive the brand. “I’ll make Gallagher’s more in tune with the present eating habits of New Yorkers,” he says. Better red than dead! [Diner’s Journal/NYT, Earlier]
