Beard Papa Is Back With a Brand-new Invention
As we noted yesterday, Beard Papa is returning to 5 Carmine Street later this week and a good thing is coming to those who’ve waited. It’s a little something known as the Cookie Crunch Puff. The Papa’s COO Craig Takiguchi isn’t holding back when he lauds this as a “new innovation” — perhaps the West Village store was acting as a laboratory of sorts while it was closed all these months, à la El Bulli? In any case, BP’s version of cookies and cream will debut at the Upper West Side and West Village stores first and then come to the others in the next two months.

Astor Place Update: Beard Papa Up, Cold Stone Creamery Down
In a bit of Astor Place musical chairs, Beard Papa has reopened as promised while its neighbor around the corner, Cold Stone Creamery, is taking a week off. Beard Papa has added pre-made Japanese-style cakes and pastries from Gateaux bakery (we cracked open the plastic on a croissant filled with ham and half of a hard-boiled egg and also sampled some tapioca balls). Cold Stone, which had to seek approval from Landmarks for construction, is promising Original Soup Man products when it reopens November 1. Because it’s getting cold and all.

Beard Papa Returning Downtown, May Hit the SlopeWe promised to launch an official investigation into the mysterious closing of Beard Papa’s East and West Village locations, and, although a disconnected signal at the latter didn’t bode well, an email from COO Craig Takiguchi is more than reassuring. “We are meeting with folks in Park Slope and Bronxville,” says Takiguchi. “I suspect we will find a good location in either of those two areas sometime this year.” As for the closed stores:
